Exploring the bittersweet last days of summer in a beach town where the fun never ends

Photographs by Ana Cuba

If the beginning of summer feels like a release from the grind, what does the end of summer signify? In these photographs from Lloret de Mar, a popular Spanish beach town about an hour outside of Barcelona, Ana Cuba explored the question with her camera, shooting on the last weekend of August 2022. She captured splashy beach days and sexy nights at the club in images that express the wild freedom of youth, when every day is lived in the moment, if only for a couple of days. In 2024, Barcelona-based publisher Zufall published a monograph of the work, Lloret - Last Days of Summer. Here, Gigantic presents a portfolio of images from the book. —Kristina Feliciano
